As one of the Deputy Directors, Teck Keong, with fellow Academic Developers, oversees the student-facing teaching assistant programmes of CTLT. His many years of teaching large classes of students from diverse majors, coupled with his previous experience as Resident Fellow of King Edward VII Hall and the College of Alice & Peter Tan (CAPT) have provided Teck Keong with invaluable insights into developing students to be more effective teaching assistants. Passionate about sharing what he has learned and experienced, Teck Keong seeks to do what he can to foster the growth of future educators and students, while looking forward to learning from them in return.

Aaron believes that everyone, regardless of resources and background, should have access to high quality educational materials. To this end, with the help of students in his research group and colleagues at the Centre for Instructional Technology (CIT), he has published several Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and a large number of YouTube videos promoting various electrical engineering topics. He is a current member of NUS’s Teaching Academy and has won the Annual Teaching Excellence Award (ATEA) multiple times for his efforts towards enhancement of undergraduate education. He is also a long-standing participant in educational activities of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE), previously serving on its Educational Committee, and recently chaired the Education and Training in Optics and Photonics (ETOP) conference in 2021. Along with his educational activities, he manages an active research group in the field of optoelectronics.

Li Neng is an Associate Director at CTLT, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology, and a Fellow in the NUS Teaching Academy. A psychologist by training, he is interested in educational innovation and exploring ways to inculcate curiosity, creativity and critical thinking. He has also partnered with non-profit organizations to drive and evaluate both educational projects in several developing countries and would love to have conversations with others on any of the above.

Mei Hui advocates for the use of feedback to promote self-reflection and is committed to developing effective and scalable methods for providing meaningful feedback, particularly in large, diverse classrooms. She also believes that learning should extend beyond the classroom and textbooks, to foster both academic excellence and personal growth for students. Formerly an Assistant Dean of Student Life, she views student activities as vital for preparing students not only for professional success but also for leading purposeful lives. As a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Food Science and Technology, she also contributes to the International Union of Food Science and Technology’s (IUOFST) Working Group on Education, tackling emerging issues related to teaching in the discipline.

Lai Yoke is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics. She teaches in the fields of international finance, financial economics, and macroeconomics. Her professional work experience includes working in both domestic and international banks, and fund management company. She has developed courses on new and emerging topics such as Driving towards the future: Battery Electric Vehicles, an interdisciplinary course in partnership between the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) and the Faculty of Science (FoS); and Life, Disrupted: The Sharing Revolution, a general education course. She also holds a postgraduate diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education.

Susan is Associate Director of CTLT and as well, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean (Undergraduate Studies) with the NUS Business School. She is a Chartered Accountant (Singapore) by profession and is certified in adult education and information systems’ risk. Being an educator who embraces social constructivism, Susan believes that learning is best facilitated in an environment that is highly relational, interactive, and experiential. Apart from her regular classroom facilitation and involvement in education administration, Susan’s pedagogical works revolve around curriculum and instructional design, and the application of technology and systems for learning and assessment. A former recipient of NUS LIFT and Blended Learning grants, Susan is an advocate for active learning through blended learning designs, problem-based learning, and work-study internship arrangements. Her educational research interests reside mainly in the philosophy, history and sociology of education.

Stephen believes in active learning through question-and-answer generation. This sparked the development of scenario-based student generated questions and answers (sb-SGQA), which was implemented in various courses to improve student learning. Beyond pedagogy, Stephen is also active in andragogy with engagements by local and overseas organisations such as the Singapore Environment Institute and ASEAN Centre for Energy. Stephen is a Fellow of the Teaching Academy, and was awarded the University Teaching Awards Honour Roll (2024-2028).

Kiruthika RAGUPATHI leads the professional development pillar at the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT). With over three decades of experience in professional development, she has played a key role in initiating/redesigning signature programmes such as the Professional Development Programme–Teaching (PDP-T), the Course Design Institute (CDI), the Educator-in-Residence Programme (EiRP), and Open Conversations. She is dedicated to enhancing teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes by continually refining teaching quality instruments at NUS. Beyond her administrative and teaching responsibilities, Kiruthika’s research spans areas such as academic development, graded/gradeless learning, assessment, technology-enhanced learning, interdisciplinary education, and student living-learning experiences. Her commitment to evidence-based practices is evident through her active participation in cross-disciplinary research aimed at enhancing higher education. Kiruthika’s role at CTLT underscores her expertise in pedagogical development while positioning her as a driving force behind fostering innovative educational ecosystems and inspiring educators to strive for academic excellence.

Dr Mark GAN Joo Seng is an Associate Director of the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) and a Resident Fellow at Helix House. As an academic developer, he has been involved in a wide variety of initiatives and programmes to enhance professional development of staff within faculties, schools and beyond. Some of the key programmes include the Development of a Teaching Portfolio for growth and promotion purposes, a teacher mentorship programme, setting up of Learning Communities and the Affiliates Programme on Educational leadership. His research interests lie in the areas of feedback and assessment, reflective practice and the impact of academic development work on teaching quality. Mark received his PhD in Education from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

Verily TAN, a Senior Education Specialist at the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT) , is well experienced in educational technology and pedagogy, focusing on blended learning, academic development, and technology-enhanced learning (TEL). With a Master’s degree in Learning Sciences and a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University Bloomington, her research interests include online teaching and learning, interdisciplinary STEM learning, and collaborative design. Verily also actively contributes to understanding andragogy, the methods of teaching adult learners, in her role at CTLT.

YEO Zi Hui is a passionate academic developer committed to the advancement of higher education. At the Centre, she is involved in designing, developing, delivering and evaluating professional development programmes, and works closely with educators to creatively translate evidence-informed teaching and learning strategies onto the ground.
Aside from her work as a practitioner, Zi Hui also contributes actively to the education literature. She has experience using both quantitative and qualitative methods, including Natural Language Processing and classroom observations, to inquire into the classroom. Her work has been presented at conferences such as the Higher Education Research & Development Society of Australasia and published in academic journals like the Teaching and Learning Inquiry. Lionel Lim is an academic developer committed to the advancement of higher education.
