In 1999, CDTL was restructured, resulting in the formation of the Centre for Instructional Technology (CIT), which oversees the development of instructional technology; and CDTL, which focuses on pedagogical issues and practices.

In 2008, CDTL underwent a second organisational review, resulting in the full-time appointments of a 3-people management team consisting of a Director, and two full-time Deputy Directors to oversee programme development, research and outreach initiatives at the Centre.
