Synopsis
The CDI will guide you through a dynamic, iterative process of course design aimed at fostering significant learning in students. Whether you are redesigning an existing course or creating a new one, the Institute will support you in designing a course that you love to teach—and one that your students love to take.
Schedule
August 2025 COHORT |
To design or redesign a course that fosters long-term, meaningful learning
The Institute will involve four days of interactive, small-group work with personalised feedback. You will apply learner-centered design principles, explore backward design, and incorporate inclusive education principles into your course creation.
Key Focus Areas:
✔️ Apply learner-centered design principles
✔️ Develop a final or near-final course syllabus
✔️ Participate in dynamic group discussions
✔️Receive personalised guidance from a facilitator to refine your course design
By the end of the CDI, you will have developed a course syllabus grounded in evidence-based course design principles, ensuring an engaging and effective learning experience for your students.
To express your interest, submit a brief (500 words or less) description of your motivation for joining the CDI and your course design plans. Consider the following questions to guide your response:
- What course will you redesign or design?
- What are your goals for student learning, and how will your course help achieve them?
- If redesigning, what changes do you want to make and why?
- What challenges do you expect in designing your course?
The CDI will be held over four days, running from 9:00AM to 3PM. Please ensure that you can fully commit to these dates. The total commitment is approximately 35 hours, including both in-person sessions and work outside of class. We recommend clearing your calendar during the CDI days to fully engage with the process.
If you are unable to make it for the August 2025 cohort, and would like to be informed when the next round is confirmed, please register your interest here.
Group facilitators are experienced instructors who will lead individual learning teams through the process of learning-focused course design. By actively listening and asking powerful questions, the team facilitator will guide you in developing your dream course.
