This proposal explores a two-year collaboration between academic faculty at the NUS School of Computing (SOC) and NUS Libraries’ professionals aimed at fostering community engagement and enhancing collaborative educational practices. By utilising library spaces to showcase posters (see Figures 1 and 2) from students’ final course projects of a graduate-level course, CS5346 “Information Visualisation”, this initiative not only highlights student achievements but also actively fosters beneficial professional relationships among faculty and librarian colleagues as suggested by Nyugen and Tuamsuk (2020). The collaboration underscores how integrating technical course outcomes with human-centric educational practices enhances the interpersonal and intersubjective dimensions of learning.

We elaborate on how these collaborative interventions enhance learner-to-learner relationships by cultivating a supportive environment where students browse each other’s work and learn from diverse perspectives through public showcases. We believe the library space is a central hub for academic discourse and community-building, where regular interactions foster a community-oriented learning culture. While we do not have direct evidence of interactions between students and other library users, we have observed substantial interest from library visitors who spent considerable time browsing through displayed student work (see Figure 3(a) and Figure 3(b)). Showcasing student work publicly increases student motivation and pride, enhancing overall student engagement and commitment.
.
Crucially, the library plays a significant role by drawing students into the library environment and actively connecting them to its extensive resources. The Digital Scholarship Librarian also conducted specialised workshops on Tableau and Spatial Data Visualisation, leveraging their expertise in Geographical Information Systems (GIS). These sessions explored techniques for mapping and analysing spatial data, enabling students to understand how data can be presented in spatial contexts to derive meaningful conclusions. Through such sessions, the librarian also facilitated access to specialised databases, research tools, and learning materials tailored to course objectives. The librarian further enriched this initiative by curating targeted resources specifically designed to support student learning throughout the project’s duration. Such strategic collaborations encourage students to engage deeply with library services, fostering their academic success while cultivating sustained use and appreciation of library resources.
Furthermore, faculty and librarians share expertise, enhancing instructional methods and materials. Collaborative initiatives encourage ongoing professional dialogues, workshops, and joint programs. Librarians contribute innovative methods, particularly in digital literacy, research methods, and scholarship practices (Azfar et al., 2023; Wong, 2024). Public showcases of student work increase the visibility of course outcomes and institutional contributions, demonstrating tangible learning outcomes that foster institutional recognition and support. Joint initiatives, such as exhibitions and workshops, enrich the learning experience and foster creativity. Collaboration with library staff provides rich, multidimensional support that benefits students, enhances teaching quality, and strengthens academic communities.
As universities adapt to the demands of a digital age, partnerships like these emphasise the indispensable roles of librarianship and faculty mentorship in shaping holistic educational experiences within an increasingly complex, data-driven world. Through examples from our collaborative experience, this paper aims to inspire educators and scholars by demonstrating practical strategies for building robust, meaningful connections in technologically enriched, community-oriented learning environments. Such a partnership also fosters co-ownership of student success, encouraging sustained engagement with institutional resources. Importantly, such collaborations model interdisciplinary teamwork, promoting professional development for both librarians and faculty. When strategically nurtured, faculty–library partnerships become catalysts for pedagogical innovation, relational learning, and institutional transformation (Gardner et al., 2013).
