The Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) invites all who are involved with higher education in Singapore to the Higher Education Conference in Singapore (HECS – formerly known as Higher Education Campus Conference – HECC) 2024.
HECS 2024 will take place on 3 December 2024 (Tuesday) at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
HECS 2024 offers educators from NUS and Singapore’s autonomous universities (AUs) the opportunity to discuss and share our respective teaching and learning practices while continuing to explore emerging higher education issues. HECS 2024 is vital for the establishment of a community of those with an interest in Singapore’s higher education landscape.

In this keynote, we explore the vital yet often overlooked role that personal mental health and wellbeing plays in academia and the quality of teaching. While traditional education focuses on knowledge and skills, the hidden curriculum of mental and emotional health is a key driver of performance and resilience in educators and their students. This session highlights NUS’s approach to support their staffs’ mental wellbeing. By recognising that self-care and managing emotional health are integral to teaching and learning, participants gain valuable insights into how prioritising their own well-being enhances both personal and academic outcomes. The keynote emphasises that when individuals take responsibility for their mental health, they unlock their true potential, paving the way for a more balanced, productive, and successful academic journey. |
Ms Katherine Koh |
While our Generation Z students value individuality, they appear to be deeply committed to making a positive impact on society. Considering that they are already committed to contributing back to the community, the question for us as educators is whether there is anything more that we can do to further develop and nurture their zeal and commitment to be better citizens of society. The natural answer to the question is a resounding yes. The next question we have to address is what can we do, whether it be at the curriculum level or at the classroom level.
