Sign Up to be a Mentee
The JEA Mentee Programme is aimed at providing TAs and Instructors with an opportunity to enhance their own teaching, either through 1) receiving feedback from an experienced JEA on their teaching, or through 2) classroom observations, where they observe our JEAs’ good teaching practices.
JEA Mentee Programme
The JEA Mentee programme is designed to help TAs and Instructors improve via:
- Receiving personalised, practical teaching support through formative feedback or guided observation.
- Gaining insight into effective teaching practices by watching experienced JEAs or reflecting on your own teaching.
- Connecting with a supportive teaching community through JEA-led events and peer engagement
The JEA Mentee Programme offers two potential routes for Teaching Assistants and instructors to develop themselves! Details of the routes are listed in the next sections:
Formative Teaching Consults
You will be paired with a JEA for a one-off, low-stakes classroom observation.
Your JEA will:
- Attend one of your teaching sessions (with your course convenor’s permission)
- Provide confidential, formative, non-evaluative feedback to help you improve your teaching
- Share practical suggestions tailored to your teaching style and goals
If you are excited to receive personalised support, sign up here.
You may preview the survey form here before submitting.
Watch and Learn
Observe a JEA teach and see effective strategies in action.
If you learn best by watching others teach, you may choose to sit in on one of our JEAs’ classes. This is a great way to:
- See how experienced peers structure lessons
- Observe facilitation techniques and learner engagement strategies
- Reflect on practices you may want to try
If this sounds exciting to you, please indicate your interest here.
Connect With the JEA Community
JEAs also host events and workshops throughout the year.
Keep an eye on CTLT mailers for upcoming opportunities to learn, connect, and grow!

Tabitha LEE En Ting
Tabby (as she prefers to be called) did her undergraduate studies in NUS Chemistry before heading over to Japan for her further studies in Bioanalytical Chemistry, which she describes as “too bio for the chem people, and too chem for the bio people.” She now works as a Teaching Assistant for the Science Dean’s Office, primarily teaching HSI1000 “How Science Works, Why Science Works”, a core College of Humanities and Science (CHS) course, but she dabbles in interdisciplinary courses and lectures a little for HSI2006 “Decoding Home and Personal Care Products” too. As an educator, Tabby firmly believes in caring for students as individuals and that learning is best done in the doing—that means lots of active learning activities with real-time feedback. In terms of content delivery, she strives to tell compelling stories (even for science!), contextualising information in a meaningful narrative, arguing that this is how information has been passed down through the ages.
Nicole LOW Yi Lian
Nicole is an Instructor in the Department of Biological Sciences and has spent more than a decade teaching and working closely with tertiary students. She graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Life Sciences, specialising in Molecular and Cell Biology, and later completed a joint master’s degree in science communication with Australian National University and NUS. Before her current role, she served as a full-time teaching assistant and Resident Fellow at NUS Raffles Hall, where she enjoyed guiding and supporting students both inside and outside the classroom.
Deeply passionate about education, Nicole believes in creating a supportive, scaffolded learning environment where students feel safe to question, explore, and grow. She enjoys using analogies and creative approaches to simplify complex biological concepts, making lessons lively, relatable, and engaging. Often described as approachable and caring, she strives to balance warmth with academic rigour so students feel supported, confident, and never alone in their learning journey.
Nicholas NEO Wee Siong
My name is Nicholas, a graduate student pursuing a PhD in Nursing. I am excited to contribute to the NUS teaching community through the Junior Educator Affiliate Programme! As an educator, I have a strong interest in how critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills develop in healthcare professionals and students, skills that are central to patient safety and progression to advanced practice. In my previous role as a Registered Nurse, I was actively involved in in-service training, competency assessments and clinical supervision of pre- and post-licensure nurses. Currently, my teaching and research will focus on the use of AI-enhanced simulation modalities to support the clinical reasoning development of undergraduate nursing students. I look forward to learning from and collaborating with fellow educators through this programme!
Christian ONG GO
Christian Go is an Instructor with the Department of Mathematics, where he has been teaching since 2017. His teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that learning is best done from the ground up: teaching as a shared process of discovery in which students are provided a safe space to grow through curiosity, struggle, and reflection.
Christian’s classes often begin with familiar ideas and everyday problems, which serve as launchpads for more abstract and challenging mathematical concepts. This creates a dynamic classroom environment where students feel comfortable exploring ideas, making mistakes, and learning from one another, helping them build confidence, ask questions freely, and ultimately develop independence as learners. He is committed to making mathematics accessible and inclusive, ensuring that students from diverse academic backgrounds feel intellectually challenged while being supported and empowered as learners.
As a mentor in the Junior Educator Affiliates Programme, Christian hopes to foster thoughtful conversations about teaching and support educators in developing their own authentic teaching identities.
Angela TAY En Qi
Angela is a Design Thinking instructor for the course DTK1234 “Design Thinking”. She believes that great learning starts with great facilitation, and maybe a good Spotify playlist. Over eight semesters, she has facilitated more than 50 transdisciplinary classes with students from various disciplines. Her lessons mix hands-on team activities, guided discussions, and structured reflection. She is passionate about creating a safe learning space, and students have commented that they feel comfortable asking questions, sharing bold ideas, and learning from one another. Outside of teaching, she works with fellow instructors to improve course design, keep content relevant, and find better ways to engage students. With past experience as a researcher and consultant in the US and Singapore, Angela brings real-world stories and practical insights into class. Her goal is to support students in building creative courage, collaborating well, and communicating ideas with clarity and purpose, all while having a little fun along the way!.
Seoh Youn Alice YOON
Alice is an Instructor in the Department of Geography, with teaching experience across the College of Design and Engineering and the College of Humanities and Sciences. She has taught both core and elective courses in classes of varying sizes, from smaller discussion-based tutorials to larger interdisciplinary studios. She emphasises peer learning and learner agency, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning by learning with and from one another. Drawing on her training as a qualitative social researcher, her pedagogy values critical reflexivity, and supports students in engaging with complexity, uncertainty, and trade-offs rather than seeking singular “right” answers. She is committed to reflective teaching practice and to growing alongside her students, colleagues, and the wider teaching community.
