.
The JEA Mentee programme is designed to help Teaching Assistants and Instructors improve via:
- Receiving personalised, practical teaching support through formative feedback, guided observation, and constructive conversations with our JEAs.
- Gaining insight into effective teaching practices by watching experienced JEAs or reflecting on your own teaching.
- Connecting with a supportive teaching community through JEA-led events and peer engagement
The JEA Mentee Programme offers three types of mentorships:
Coffee Chats
Get personalised teaching advice from a peer who has been there. Whether you are navigating a tricky classroom dynamic, looking to grow as an educator, or even just curious about what CTLT and JEAP can offer you, our Junior Educator Affiliates (JEAs) are here to help. Book an informal 45-minute chat during the Semester to:
- Get peer guidance on any aspect of your teaching work and development at NUS
- Hear firsthand experiences on career development and university teaching
- Reflect on your own practice in a low-stakes, collegial setting
Please note that JEAs are not able to advise on matters best directed to workplace supervisors or qualified wellness professionals.
If you would like to request a Coffee Chat, please sign up below and we will assign a JEA to you.
Formative Teaching Consults
You will be paired with a JEA for a one-off, low-stakes classroom observation.
Your JEA will:
- Attend one of your teaching sessions (with your course convenor’s permission)
- Provide confidential, formative, non-evaluative feedback to help you improve your teaching
- Share practical suggestions tailored to your teaching style and goals
Sign up below if you are excited to receive personalised support for your teaching!
You may preview the survey form here before submitting.
Watch and Learn
Observe a JEA teach and see effective strategies in action.
If you learn best by watching others teach, you may choose to sit in on one of our JEAs’ classes. This is a great way to:
- See how experienced peers structure lessons
- Observe facilitation techniques and learner engagement strategies
- Reflect on practices you may want to try
If this sounds exciting to you, please indicate your interest below.
Curate Your Own Mentorship Journey!
Mentees may book up to three mentorships with each mentor per semester. These three mentorships may include a maximum of one Coffee Chat and up to two Watch & Learn mentorships per mentor. This offers exciting opportunities for you to tailor your mentorship experience to your goals and level of comfort.
Here are a few options you can consider:
JEAs host events and workshops that bring Teaching Assistants and Instructors together to share ideas and develop their teaching practice.
